Integrated Electric Propulsion & Vessel Autonomy Solutions for Enabling Autonomous Maritime Operations

RAD develops advanced electric propulsion and autonomous vessel control solutions for unmanned and crewed maritime platforms. Designed for defence, security and commercial applications, RAD’s solutions work together as an integrated propulsion, power management and autonomy ecosystem, enabling vessels to operate with exceptionally low acoustic, vibration and thermal signatures while reducing maintenance requirements and operating costs.

Electric Propulsion Solutions

RAD’s electric propulsion portfolio combines compact permanent magnet motors, intelligent power management and advanced control software to deliver quiet, highly responsive propulsion for autonomous and remotely operated vessels.

Integrated with RAD’s autonomy software and vessel control systems, RAD propulsion systems enable accurate waypoint tracking, station keeping and autonomous manoeuvring.

RAD 40

Compact electric vessel propulsion system with 40 kW of power

RAD Propulsion RAD 40 Compact Electric Vessel Propulsion System

The RAD 40 is a compact outboard motor that has been purpose-built from the ground up to take advantage of the benefits of electric propulsion. Delivering 40 kW of continuous power and equivalent thrust to a conventional 60 hp outboard, the system features a space-saving design that remains behind the transom when tilted up, maximizing usable deck space and simplifying integration into a wide range of vessel types.

RAD Propulsion RAD 40 Compact Electric Vessel Propulsion SystemThe motor offers a fully integrated 180-degree drive-by-wire steering system, enabling precise low-speed manoeuvring and simplifying docking in challenging environments. The IP67-rated system utilizes a closed-circuit cooling system that requires no maintenance and makes it ideal for both saltwater and freshwater operations.

RAD 120

Near-silent electric vessel propulsion system with 120 kW of power

RAD’s 120kw Near-silent Propulsion System

RAD Propulsion 120 The RAD 120 is a high-performance electric propulsion system delivering 120 kW of continuous power, providing the equivalent thrust of a conventional 150 hp engine. Designed for demanding commercial, government and defence applications, it features fully integrated drive-by-wire architecture for exceptional manoeuvrability and precise vessel control.

The system supports a variety of connectivity options, including NMEA2000, Wi-Fi and GSM, offering easy plug-and-play setup and control. It is compatible with any suitable battery configuration, with a minimum recommended capacity of 61 kWh and preferred capacity of at least 122 kWh. Multiple batteries can be linked to deliver up to 244 kWh total.

RAD Autonomy Core

Scalable and easy-to-install remote vessel control

RAD Autonomy Core is a modular marine autonomy system that has been designed to enable fully remote vessel operation without requiring major modifications to existing platforms. Securely connecting vessel propulsion and other onboard systems to IP networks via satellite, Wi-Fi, cellular or peer-to-peer/mesh radio, it offers straightforward installation with the ability to scale from basic remote control to full autonomy as your needs evolve.

RAD Autonomy CoreEngineered for up to Degree 3 autonomy, the solution is propulsion-agnostic and connects to both modern and legacy systems via standard gateways. A built-in fallback capability allows remote operators to retain control if external autonomy systems fail, with the option to activate a “get me home” function.
