Underwater altimeters and depth sensors are devices that can be utilised by AUVs, ROVs and other subsea robotics platforms to make underwater measurements with acoustic pulses. They may have configurable depth ranges and sounding rates. The data gathered by these sensors can also be analysed to provide information about the seafloor type.

Underwater altimeters and depth sensors may also feature integrated attitude & heading reference systems (AHRS), which use gyros, accelerometers and magnetometers to provide highly stable heading, pitch and roll measurements for enhanced accuracy.
