Sony Electronics has officially launched the AS-DT1 LiDAR Depth Sensor for commercial purchase through the company’s network of authorized distributors.

The new miniature precision LiDAR model is designed specifically for weight-sensitive and space-constrained applications, weighing approximately 46 grams and measuring 29mm by 29mm by 31mm. Housed in a compact and durable aluminum enclosure, the depth sensor is intended for seamless integration into various hardware platforms, including autonomous mobile robots, automated guide vehicles, and aerial inspection drones.

The sensing technology relies on Direct Time of Flight (dToF) methods combined with a proprietary Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensor. This configuration enables the device to deliver high-speed, three-dimensional distance data with high accuracy. The system is engineered to detect objects even under challenging conditions, such as surfaces with low reflectivity or low contrast.

Performance specifications indicate a maximum measurement range of 40 meters for indoor use. In outdoor environments under bright lighting conditions, the sensor maintains a reliable range of 20 meters, ensuring consistent data acquisition across different operational settings.

Sony Electronics, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, continues to expand its portfolio of professional electronics and robotics solutions with this release. The organization leverages its expertise in engineering and research to provide end-to-end sensing solutions for the global professional market.
