Inertial Labs, a VIAVI Solutions Company, has published a white paper, Understanding the Difference between Map Projections vs. Coordinate Systems, providing a clear overview of two fundamental concepts in geodesy and cartography.
The paper explains how coordinate systems establish spatial reference frameworks, while map projections transform the Earth’s curved surface into flat representations, each introducing specific types of distortion. It also addresses datum transformations and demonstrates how software tools, such as the PCMaster Pro,
can streamline accurate coordinate conversion for applications such as surveying and LiDAR data processing.
Alongside this research, Inertial Labs expands on its hardware solutions with the RESEPI Lite range of LiDAR scanning systems. Designed for UAV-based remote sensing, RESEPI Lite integrates high-performance GPS-aided inertial navigation with RTK/PPK GNSS receivers, Wi-Fi, and embedded cellular connectivity for in-flight RTCM RTK corrections.
Developed as a white-label solution, the platform allows Inertial Labs partners and resellers to customize both hardware and software branding while leveraging Inertial Labs’ orientation and positioning expertise. The systems produce highly accurate, thin point clouds even at higher altitudes, with automated RTK LAS file generation and streamlined post-processing tools.
Inertial Labs will be exhibiting at InterGEO 2025, taking place October 7–9 at Messe Frankfurt in Germany.
Visitors can meet the team in Hall 12 at Booth 12.0F.139 to learn more about the RESEPI Lite platform, explore the company’s geospatial technology portfolio, and discuss the latest research findings.
