Deep Trekker is playing a pivotal role in enhancing Ukraine’s civil underwater demining capacity through its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The program delivers specialized equipment, structured training, and operational frameworks that allow national agencies to safely locate and identify explosive hazards in rivers, reservoirs, canals, and coastal waters contaminated by conflict. Central to this effort is the deployment of Deep Trekker’s REVOLUTION Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), paired with comprehensive operator and instructor training programs.
Since early 2025, Deep Trekker has conducted two mission phases, delivering 52 REVOLUTION ROVs and training personnel from SESU, SSTS, the National Police, and the National Mine Action Center. This includes operator-focused courses and a Train-the-Trainer program, resulting in Ukraine’s first unified group of certified underwater ROV instructors capable of nationwide training. The REVOLUTION’s modular design, vectored thrusters, and integrated imaging sonar enable safe operations in zero-visibility, strong currents, and heavily silted waters, conditions that make diver-first approaches highly risky.
By combining ROV technology with structured training and national coordination, Deep Trekker and UNDP are establishing a sustainable, scalable underwater demining framework. This initiative accelerates hazard identification, reduces risk to personnel, and supports the restoration of safe waterways critical to Ukraine’s communities and infrastructure.
