Edge AI Compute & SOM Platforms for Next-Generation UAV Autonomy & Robotics
Lantronix is a leading developer of advanced AI-powered edge compute solutions for drones and robotics, with a product portfolio that enables OEMs and system integrators to equip their platforms with cutting-edge autonomy and intelligence.
With U.S.-based headquarters and global engineering presence, Lantronix is one of the few North American providers of NDAA- and TAA-compliant SOM (system-on-module) products, offering secure and controlled production and supply chains. The company has partnered with a number of leading drone industry OEMs, including Teledyne FLIR, Gremsy, and Teal, and is also participating in the Pentagon’s Drone Dominance program.
Low-SWaP edge computing & AI for UAVs
Lantronix’ solutions offer powerful compute capabilities and excellent power efficiency in a compact and lightweight form factor, resulting in longer flight times and enhanced payload capacities. With rapid and reliable processing at the edge, they unlock real-time perception and navigation without the need for cloud services or high-bandwidth communications.
These industry-leading capabilities make them ideal for a wide range of industries and use cases, including:
ISR and defense
Emergency and disaster response
Real-time fault detection in utilities and infrastructure inspection
Multispectral crop analysis for precision agriculture
BVLOS operations under emerging FAA Part 108 regulations
Lantronix’ embedded SOMs provide a powerful foundation for drone platform development, replacing the multiple processors used by traditional designs with a single intelligent capability that makes it easier and faster to deploy AI-based solutions. With seamless integration into virtually any platform, these modules reduce development costs and enable faster time-to-market.
Lantronix is recognized as a key Western scaling partner for Qualcomm, with over two decades of experience in leveraging its compute and connectivity solutions.

Development Kits
Lantronix SOM Development Kits pair a production-ready SOM with everything developers need to start building right out of the box, providing an easy and convenient method of evaluating and prototyping drone and AI applications.
Built around the Qualcomm® Dragonwing™ QCS8550 — a processor purpose-engineered for low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) performance — the Lantronix Drone Reference Platform gives OEMs and developers a proven, NDAA-compliant foundation to move from concept to flight-ready prototype in weeks, not months.
The platform is MAVLink-compatible, working seamlessly with popular external flight controllers such as Unusual Machines’ H7 or Pixhawk. With pre-integrated hardware and software, development teams can bypass the most time-consuming stages of design, validation, and testing — dramatically compressing time to market while reducing development cost.
Lower power. Longer missions. The Qualcomm Dragonwing draws approximately 10W compared to 25W for competing solutions, translating to 8–15% longer flight times. ~4.8 INT8 TOPS per watt at a ~10W operating point, excellent SWAP resulting in more mission flexibility and AI workloads. For commercial and defense operators, that efficiency gain means greater operational range, enhanced mission capability, and real cost savings in the field.
Better drone fit. Lower power and smaller cooling needs improve SWaP for small UAVs.
AI at the edge, built in. The platform is compatible with the FLIR Hadron 640R thermal camera featuring onboard AI-powered detection and tracking — ready for surveillance, search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, monitoring, and more. Edge AI processing, sensor fusion, secure boot, and encrypted communications are all part of the stack, not afterthoughts.
Flexible by design. Compatible with a wide range of multirotor and fixed-wing configurations, so your architecture can scale as your program grows.
Modular by design. Built to support a wide range of drone platforms and mission profiles — from agriculture and inspection to ISR, search and rescue, and defense applications. The platform works out of the box with critical drone components, while Lantronix continues to expand its hardware and software ecosystem to give customers more integration options as their programs scale.
Backed by 20+ years of embedded engineering expertise, 200+ engineers, and a track record of 2,000+ projects delivered, Lantronix brings the full-stack capability — AI/ML, imaging, connectivity, and compliance — that serious drone programs demand.
