Chess Dynamics has expanded its Vision4ce CHARM portfolio with the release of the CHARM50, a compact, AI-enabled edge video processing module engineered for size, weight, and power-constrained operational environments.
As defense and security architectures become increasingly distributed, demand is growing for processing hardware that operates closer to the sensor. Applications such as airborne surveillance, unmanned platforms, compact gimbals, and handheld sensors require high-performance video analytics while operating within strict physical limits.
Measuring approximately 50 mm by 35 mm, the CHARM50 delivers artificial intelligence detection, classification, and tracking capabilities while offering a size reduction of roughly 50 percent compared to the CHARM100NX. By running edge video processing directly within sensor hardware, the module enables information to be computed locally rather than transmitting high-volume raw video to a central processor.

Hardware features include support for HD-SDI video inputs with the ability to process two streams simultaneously, making the unit suitable for systems combining daylight and thermal sensors. When configured with a single video input, the module supports higher-bandwidth feeds, including 3G-SDI. Localized computation reduces overall network bandwidth requirements, enables lower latency response, and allows processed analytical data to be shared across wider architectures instead of raw streams.
The unit benefits from a modular design with an interface capable of integrating across a broad spectrum of camera systems. Its deployment directly addresses challenges in smart sensor adoption and distributed sensing architectures, which have previously been limited by a lack of AI computing on small form factors and variable bandwidth between operators and unmanned units.
By pairing processing power directly with the sensor, platforms can generate detections, classifications, and target tracking closer to the point of capture, reducing reliance on centralized computing. The CHARM50 joins the existing Vision4ce CHARM lineup—comprising the CHARM80, CHARM100NX, and CHARM150AGX—providing a scalable range of edge processing options for varying platform constraints.
