ZenaDrone, a U.S.-based subsidiary of technology solution provider ZenaTech, Inc., has commenced flight testing of its custom-designed printed circuit boards at its UAE manufacturing and testing facility, integrating the proprietary hardware directly into its ZenaDrone 1000 and IQ Nano drone platforms.
The custom Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are designed and manufactured in Taiwan at Spider Vision Sensors, a 16,000-square-foot subsidiary owned by ZenaTech, before being shipped to the UAE for integration and flight validation. The milestone represents the latest step in ZenaTech’s strategy to build a vertically integrated, defense-grade supply chain capable of serving AI drones, Drone as a Service (DaaS), enterprise SaaS, and Quantum Computing sectors while meeting growing U.S. government demand for defense-compliant technology.

Designing and manufacturing our own boards through Spider Vision Sensors, rather than depending on third-party or foreign suppliers, gives us control over cost, quality, and our timeline to Blue UAS certification, considered a gateway to higher-volume procurement and U.S. Defense Department and NATO contracts. With Chinese-made drones being pushed out of the federal market, we believe ZenaDrone is well positioned to capture a meaningful share of a U.S. defense drone market being reshaped in our favor.”
Bringing core electronics design and manufacturing fully in-house addresses three primary strategic goals: increasing supply chain resilience amid geopolitical and export-control uncertainty, improving gross margin potential by reducing reliance on external suppliers, and shortening the design-to-deployment cycle through direct operational control. Successful flight validation will pave the way for these components to be deployed across ZenaDrone’s broader platform lineup, including its IQ series and Counter UAS products.
The Spider Vision Sensors facility in Taiwan is also in the process of manufacturing additional hardware components, including cameras, sensors, and motors, further consolidating critical supply chain points under direct company ownership. Because Taiwan is not designated a “covered foreign country” under the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), components manufactured there qualify for use in NDAA-compliant and Blue UAS-eligible drone systems.
NDAA compliance mandates strict adherence to U.S. restrictions on foreign-made electronics in defense equipment, particularly Chinese-sourced components. To achieve Blue UAS certification—a prerequisite for direct procurement by the Department of Defense and federal agencies—drone systems require comprehensive component-level traceability, including for PCBs. ZenaDrone currently has four drones progressing through this certification workflow as legislative measures like the American Security Drone Act and new Federal Communications Commission restrictions bar Chinese-made drones and components from federal use, creating a distinct market opening for vertically integrated non-Chinese manufacturers.
