With AUSA 2026 wrapped up and a successful shwoing in Washington, DC, Vantage Robotics highlighted the capabilities of its Vesper Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS), a compact platform developed for applications spanning public safety, inspection, government and defense operations.
Designed, sourced and built in the United States, Vesper is a National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)-compliant quadrotor conceived to provide rapidly deployable aerial reconnaissance in demanding operating environments.
Portable Reconnaissance Across Different Operating Environments
Vesper can be equipped with two rotor configurations according to the mission environment. A shrouded set is designed for indoor flight and operation near people, while a reconnaissance set provides enhanced endurance, stealth and speed. With the reconnaissance rotors installed, the aircraft offers up to 55 minutes of flight endurance, compared with 32 minutes using the shrouded configuration, and can reach speeds of up to 20 meters per second.
The affordable and portable system is backpack-ready and packs into a 2.2 lb waterproof, crush-proof field case, with the aircraft airborne in under 90 seconds from case to launch. These characteristics support applications across public safety, including first responder and law enforcement operations, as well as inspection and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR).
Day, Night & Thermal Imaging
Vesper incorporates a field-replaceable three-axis stabilized gimbal carrying dual 4K Starlight Electro-Optical (EO) sensors and a thermal imager, supporting aerial reconnaissance across daylight, low-light and night-time conditions. The EO system uses dual Sony sensors providing 3840 x 2160 resolution and 8 MP still imagery, with 48x combined optical and digital zoom. Low-light performance extends down to 8 mlux in color, or 2 mlux with the optional monochrome EO sensor, while the thermal imager is available in 320 x 240 ((≤65 mK) or 640 x 480 (≤60 mK) configurations.
For sensitive government and military applications, Vesper also incorporates AES-256 encryption for communications and stored data, secure boot and Blue UAS Cleared status, together with bonded construction designed to prevent tampering.
These defense credentials have recently been reinforced through the U.S. Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) program. Following competitive flight evaluations at Clarke Range near Anniston, Alabama, in which Vesper was assessed on range, endurance, frequency agility, imaging, autonomy, portability and ease of use, Vantage Robotics was selected as one of five manufacturers to progress to the Manufacturing Readiness Assessment phase, which it has since successfully completed.
With both operational performance and production capacity validated, Vesper is positioned for procurement at scale as the Army moves toward fielding its next-generation platoon-level reconnaissance system.
