Xsens has developed a comprehensive range of inertial sensor solutions to assist users in selecting the most appropriate technology for specific application requirements.
The product portfolio has been divided into distinct series that represent various levels of accuracy, size, and weight. The MTi-1 Series has provided a unique surface mount form factor on a 12mm x 12mm sensor, featuring onboard sensor fusion and GNSS/INS capabilities for power-constrained applications. For those requiring versatile integration, the MTi-600 Series has offered performance in both OEM and ruggedized formats, including the MTi-680 and MTi-680G models which have utilized RTK for centimeter-level accuracy.
The Xsens Avior Series has been engineered as a high-performance OEM solution for drones and robotics, supporting multiple interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232, and RS422. For operations in extreme environments, the Xsens Sirius has been designed with a MIL-standard IP68 housing to resist temperature extremes, humidity, and electromagnetic interference.
Advanced Functional Modules
The technology has been categorized by functional output to suit different navigation and stabilization needs:
- Inertial Measurement Units (IMU): The most basic modules have delivered calibrated 3D rate-of-turn, linear acceleration, and magnetic field measurements.
- Vertical Reference Units (VRU): These units have computed 3D orientation, including roll and pitch, using gravity as a reference.
- Attitude Heading Reference Systems (AHRS): These systems have utilized magnetometer readings to produce a true North referenced yaw.
- Motion Reference Units (MRU): Designed specifically for marine platforms, these have provided real-time Heave output with an accuracy of <5cm.
- GNSS/INS: These modules have integrated GNSS receivers and barometers to offer 3D position and velocity data.
Xsens has implemented a powerful processor core across all series, enabling sensors to process measurements with extremely low latencies. To assist in the selection process, the company has developed a Product Selector Tool to compare solutions based on design needs.
Flexible Form Factors
The hardware has been made available in three primary form factors to ensure seamless system integration: SMD for the MTi-1 Series, OEM versions for the MTi-600 and Avior lines, and Rugged housings for the MTi-600 and Sirius series. These options have allowed for flexibility whether the priority is compact size or environmental protection.
