Dronetag’s pocket-sized Remote ID receiver, Dronetag RIDER, has been integrated and tested by the U.S. fire department in the Hawaiian Islands, achieving real-time UAV detection and enhancing aerial safety in emergency operations. Read more >>
The fire department sought a lightweight, mobile solution to detect drones operated by civilians or unauthorized entities near incident sites, where these UAVs were frequently appearing, interfering with air support, such as helicopters, and complicating already critical missions.
The solution also needed to monitor drones in real-time without relying on permanent infrastructure or complex deployments.
These challenges were addressed by Dronetag RIDER. This Remote ID receiver passively listens for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals from compliant drones, demonstrating real-time data on drone type, flight path, location and the pilot’s position through the Dronetag and Drone Scanner apps.
The device requires no setup or pairing, making it immediately deployable in the field for instant airspace awareness. Data can also be shared directly via maps or exported for post-event analysis through mobile or web interface.
Dronetag’s solution is very flexible, performing effectively whether used on the move, mounted in vehicles, or deployed in a fixed position, seamlessly integrating into public safety workflows with minimal training required.
The field evaluation of Dronetag RIDER emphasized its effectiveness in emergency response situations, with the technology providing immediate situational awareness and adaptive capabilities.
Test results demonstrated real-time drone detection, identifying a DJI M30T aircraft from over 2 miles away. There was mobile monitoring, with multiple UAVs tracked while on the move, as well as flexible deployment. Devices were mounted onto vests or vehicles using an adhesive clip.
Dronetag RIDER enhanced safety, securing airspace during critical helicopter operations. The device also has no set up required, meaning it was fully functional and intuitive for first responders.
Department feedback emphasized Dronetag’s fast and helpful support, with Dronetag RIDER’s performance and ease of use exceeding their expectations. Based on the successful results, the department plans to acquire multiple units for ongoing operations.
