Gremsy, a leading developer of gimbal and payload technology for drones, has officially launched the Orus L, the first in a new series of high-performance spherical payloads designed for demanding uncrewed aerial applications.
Combining aerodynamic efficiency, rugged durability, and powerful onboard AI capabilities, the Orus L introduces a new design standard for drone payloads used in inspection, security, and autonomous operations. The system represents a major step forward in Gremsy’s long-term strategy to deliver adaptable payload solutions for evolving mission requirements.
Gremsy’s CTO Huy Pham, project leader of ORUS L, explains the vision behind the new innovation saying, “With Orus L, we’re not just launching a product; we’re building the cornerstone of Gremsy’s next-generation payload ecosystem. Our vision is to deliver a uniquely adaptable range of solutions tailored to meet the specific and evolving needs of our customers. The sphere form factor is key to this, allowing us to achieve exceptional protection, aerodynamic efficiency, and a flexible platform for a wide range of specialized applications within the Gremsy ecosystem.”
High-Speed, All-Weather Performance
Engineered for both VTOL and fixed-wing platforms, the Orus L is optimized for high-speed operations of up to 100 km/h. Its IP55-rated enclosure ensures resilience in harsh operating environments, making it suitable for dynamic and time-critical missions.
Onboard AI with NVIDIA Jetson Orin
The payload features the NVIDIA Jetson Orin computing platform, enabling advanced onboard AI processing for real-time object detection, tracking, and data analysis. Operators can also import custom AI models directly on the payload, reducing reliance on ground-based processing and allowing faster decision-making during missions.
Multi-Sensor Payload Suite
The Orus L features a sophisticated multi-sensor suite which integrates:
- High-resolution Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) cameras
- Laser Range Finder (LRF) for accurate distance measurement
This multi-sensor approach delivers enhanced situational awareness, supporting use cases in infrastructure inspection, public safety, environmental monitoring, and unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) support.
Spherical Payload Ecosystem
The Orus L is the first in a planned family of spherical payloads from Gremsy. The design offers significant aerodynamic and durability advantages over traditional payload formats, particularly for high-speed fixed-wing UAV missions. It also provides greater flexibility for specialized configurations within Gremsy’s ecosystem of professional drone payloads.
“At Gremsy, we’ve always been driven by the desire to push boundaries and solve the most complex challenges facing our customers,” explains Huy Pham, CTO of Gremsy. “We recognized a growing demand for payloads that could withstand harsh environments, deliver unprecedented speed, and, crucially, offer on-board intelligence.
“The traditional square payload design, while effective for many applications, presented limitations for high-speed fix-wing and advanced VTOL missions, as observed with previous requests. This led us to rethink the fundamental design. This new spherical line significantly expands our product portfolio, running in parallel with our commitment to developing diverse and specialized payload solutions for varied market demands. We believe this multi-faceted approach is key to empowering our customers with the best tools for any mission.”
Recent integrations include deployment on Nokia’s fully automated 5G drone-in-a-box system, demonstrating its adaptability across diverse unmanned platforms.
Gremsy plans to expand the Orus spherical payload line in the near future, building on the Orus L’s capabilities to address a broad range of operational needs.
