Skyfront Perimeter 8 drone with IMSAR radar payload

Skyfront has partnered with IMSAR to integrate a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system into Skyfront’s Perimeter 8 long endurance hybrid multirotor UAS (unmanned aerial system). IMSAR’s NSP-3 SAR/MTI radar is a multimode, low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) radar system that can be used to provide Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities in the land and maritime domains.

Flight tests were successfully conducted on the California coast, and the system was easily assembled in the field. The Perimeter 8 hybrid power octocopter drone, combined with the SAR system, provides an easy-to-fly ISR asset that can carry multiple payloads and fly for up to 2 hours.

Larry Moore, Vice President at IMSAR, commented: “We’re excited to be working with Skyfront to offer tactical operators this level of ISR capability that was once reserved for strategic and theater level assets. This gives operators high resolution SAR imaging, Change Detection, and Moving Target Indicator capabilities from a platform that can be deployed from the back of a mid-size SUV or small boat.”
