maxon outlines the expanding role of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in applications such as inspection, agriculture, security, and light cargo transport.
As the UAV market continues to develop, requirements placed on aerial platforms and their components have increased.
The sector is young and fast-moving, with a large number of startups, and maxon is active in this environment through the development of dedicated drive solutions for drone applications. These solutions combine precision motors with matching controllers to address the demands of aerial use.
Initial prototype systems were built in 2019 for selected projects and were followed by laboratory testing and multiple design revisions. New drives for customer projects remain in development. From the outset, collaboration has taken place with drone specialists, propeller manufacturers, and academic partners such as EPFL to support application-specific development.
In the drone market, the interaction between brushless DC motors, motor controllers, and propellers is critical to overall system performance. This system-oriented perspective is reflected in maxon’s organizational structure, which includes dedicated business units focused on Aerospace, Industrial Automation, Medical, and Mobility Solutions.
