HOBBYWING discusses how its latest H15MD Plus coaxial integrated propulsion system provided reliable performance for heavy-lift Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operations in extreme cold conditions, supporting a timber transport mission in northern China.
Conducted in Mohe, Heilongjiang Province, a region defined by its high-latitude position between 52°10′N and 53°33′N, the operation took place in a challenging winter environment where low temperatures significantly impact UAV propulsion reliability. These conditions require systems capable of maintaining stable output and efficiency despite thermal and environmental constraints.
The Ruhong Yun 201 UAV developed by Ruhong Low-Altitude Intelligent Technology, equipped with the H15MD Plus propulsion system, was selected to undertake the mission. Designed for demanding operational settings, the UAV performed timber lifting tasks across snow-covered terrain, demonstrating its role in supporting forestry logistics during winter months.
At an ambient temperature of –25.8°C and an altitude of 385 meters in hilly terrain, the UAV completed four lifting sorties within 14 minutes using two battery sets. Payloads included timber weights of 50 kg, 157 kg, 200 kg, and 212 kg, with a total flight distance of 8 kilometers achieved during the operation.
Throughout the mission, the H15MD Plus coaxial motors maintained stable thrust and efficient performance. Motor temperatures remained below 30°C, ensuring continuous propulsion output and minimizing the risk of performance degradation under cold-weather conditions.
This demonstration highlights the propulsion system’s ability to operate effectively in low-temperature environments while delivering the power and consistency required for heavy-lift UAV tasks. The H15MD Plus system is suited to applications such as forestry operations, cargo transport, and emergency response, where environmental resilience and reliability are critical.
