ATMOSPHERE has launched its PLANET 9770 PNT Terminal, a compact satellite communication and positioning unit tailored for unmanned aerial vehicle systems.
Designed to address the mobile communication demands of modern flight platforms, the terminal provides native IP connectivity with Midband throughput reaching 88 kbps for mobile terminated data and 22 kbps for mobile originated data via the Iridium Certus 100 satellite service.
A defining feature of the unit is its autonomous positioning capability, accessible through standard GNSS or Iridium Positioning-Navigation-Timing services. This capability gives flight operators a resilient alternative to standard GPS in operational zones where conventional satellite navigation signals face severe degradation, jamming, or spoofing. Utilizing Iridium’s Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation, the unit receives signals that are significantly stronger than traditional GPS signals, making them substantially harder to disrupt.
The technology was validated under real-world electronic warfare conditions during the Jammertest 2025 trial in Norway, widely recognized as one of the world’s premier testing grounds for GNSS reliability. During the evaluation, the terminal successfully maintained accurate positioning even while GPS signals were being actively jammed and spoofed.
To simplify installation on various airborne platforms, the hardware incorporates a low-profile passive antenna that requires no ground plane, alongside local physical interfaces for power, Ethernet, and serial connections. Housing the internal components is a flame-resistant ABS UL94V-0 enclosure measuring 205.4 mm in width, 120.4 mm in length, and 50 mm in height, with a total system weight of 750 g and an operational temperature range spanning -40°C to +50°C.
Software functions are handled directly from the hardware through an embedded PLANET application, which is accessible via a web interface. The system supports various operational mission profiles by providing tools for real-time tracking, collaboration, telemetry handling, and weather data upload services. Initial customer deliveries of the terminal are already underway.
