In this video from Videosoft Global, CEO Stewart McCone discusses the biggest challenges with BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) drone operations and how Videosoft’s streaming technology addresses them.
Long distances in BVLOS operations often result in low-bandwidth network conditions, whether over satellite, long-range RF, or cellular networks in unpredictable locations. McCone discusses how standard video products struggle in these real-world environments, performing well under laboratory conditions but encountering problems in the field.
Videosoft overcomes this by developing its own video protocols and encoding methods, optimized for low-bitrate network conditions. This enables real-time, high-quality video streaming even at bit rates below 200 kilobits per second, and in some cases as low as 1 kilobit per second.
The video also highlights real-world demonstrations, including live drone video streaming in Austria with very low latency, controlled via joystick, showcasing the performance of Videosoft’s technology under challenging conditions.
Videosoft’s solutions benefit a range of stakeholders in the drone ecosystem, from end users and service providers to airframe and communications manufacturers, enabling drones to remain connected and operational over long distances.
