Advanced Navigation’s Chimera Land Laser Velocity Sensor (LVS) is a high-reliability localization and aiding system designed to support accurate navigation in GNSS-degraded environments, including underground mining operations.
The system addresses the limitations of traditional manual processes, which are often time-consuming and costly, as well as perception-based solutions that can suffer from localisation errors in complex subsurface conditions. Chimera Land delivers continuous, clear, and unambiguous localisation and velocity data, with proven accuracy of 0.009% error per distance travelled, enabling reliable deployment of underground vehicles and opening the door to future autonomous mining operations.
By providing consistent, high-quality velocity data, the LVS plays a critical role when integrated with an Inertial Navigation system (INS), helping to mitigate the exponential error growth (drift) associated with traditional INS use underground and maintain positioning accuracy over time. This capability supports a shift away from labour-intensive manual processes while enhancing predictive maintenance strategies, contributing to increased operational uptime and more efficient underground operations.
