SubC Imaging details how its Rayfin Uplink camera system enabled Vriezoo ROV Services in the Netherlands to capture HD and 4K digital imaging using compact, non-fiber Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems.
By integrating the Rayfin Uplink into its existing fleet, Vriezoo transmitted real-time HD and 4K digital video over legacy coax and twisted-pair cabling without switching to fiber optics or upgrading ROV or topside infrastructure.
Vriezoo ROV Services performs underwater and offshore inspections across Europe’s wind farms, ports, and inland waterways. The company operates compact ROVs designed for tight and shallow environments. However, the existing cabling on these systems was not designed to support the bandwidth required for 4K digital video transmission to the surface.
Achieving HD and 4K Digital Imaging
Demand from clients and research partners for clearer imagery highlighted the limitations of analog video systems. Existing ROV cameras provided limited control over image settings, making it difficult to adapt to changing visibility and lighting conditions during operations.
Willem de Vries, Founder, Vriezoo ROV Services, “With small, non-fiber ROVs, getting 4K video to the surface just wasn’t possible. The Rayfin Uplink finally changed that.”
SubC Imaging states that the Rayfin Uplink enables real-time HD and 4K digital imaging and digital still capture over existing coax or twisted-pair cabling. The subsea camera connects to a topside Rayfin Uplink unit that converts transmitted data into 100 Mb Ethernet for real-time digital streaming.
Real-Time Image Control and System Integration
In addition to transmitting HD and 4K video, the Rayfin Uplink provides full image control. Operators can adjust exposure, color, and gain during live operations rather than relying on fixed factory settings.
The Rayfin Uplink was integrated into Vriezoo’s existing ROV fleet without structural modifications. The company later paired the system with SubC Imaging’s DVR+ Overlay to support file transfer and data handling.
Inspection Data Capture Using Existing Infrastructure
Following deployment, Vriezoo captured sharp HD and 4K video and digital stills using its non-fiber ROV systems. The system enabled real-time image adjustments and Ethernet-based streaming while maintaining the company’s existing cabling and operational setup.
Willem de Vries, also commented, “The quality of the images is superb compared to other cameras. With the Rayfin, I know I can deliver better inspection results and stand out from others in the field. It’s a real competitive advantage having that capability.”
Vriezoo’s experience shows that HD and 4K digital imaging can be achieved on non-fiber ROV systems using the Rayfin Uplink without switching to fiber optics or upgrading infrastructure.
