NDAA-Compliant Brushless Motors for Drones & Autonomous Systems

Atlas Motion Systems is an innovative developer and manufacturer of brushless motors that are specifically designed to address the requirements of drones and autonomous platforms. With an expert team that boasts experience from Tesla, Shield AI, Anduril, Dyson and MITRE, the company provides COTS motors as well as customized solutions.

Atlas Motion Systems | NDAA-Compliant Brushless Motors

Atlas’ NDAA-compliant brushless motors are designed and prototyped in California with volume production in the Philippines, utilizing allied manufacturing capacity to deliver at scale while avoiding dependence on adversarial supply chains.

COTS Motors for Drones & Robotics

Atlas’ standard brushless motor range currently offers three models, providing a choice of motor sizes, KV ratings and supply voltages. All models feature a 12-tooth, 14-pole configuration and Class H windings, and are offered in packs of four as standard, with volume orders available upon request.

2207 Brushless Motor

Atlas Motion Systems | 2207 Brushless MotorThe compact 2207 motor weighs just 35 g and operates from a 2S–6S supply, with a speed constant of 1750 KV. It has a peak current rating of 16 A for 10 seconds in still air and a no-load current of 0.9 A at 10 V.

Measuring 29.05 mm in diameter and 18.25 mm high excluding the propeller shaft, the motor incorporates a 22 mm stator with a 6.5 mm stack height. Four M3 mounting holes are arranged with 16 mm spacing, and the 5 mm shaft features a threaded section for propeller attachment.

3115 Brushless Motor

Atlas Motion Systems | 3115 Brushless MotorThe 3115 is available in 850, 950 and 1100 KV options. The 850 and 950 KV versions operate from a 4S–8S supply, while the 1100 KV version operates from a 4S–6S supply. Peak current ratings range from 50 to 65 A for 10 seconds in still air, and no-load currents from 0.75 to 1.3 A at 10 V.

The 1100 KV motor weighs 125 g and measures 37.80 mm in diameter and 31 mm high excluding the propeller shaft. It features a 31 mm stator with a 15 mm stack height, N42SH magnets and a 5 mm threaded shaft. Four M3 mounting holes with 19 mm spacing provide attachment to the host platform.

4112 Brushless Motor

Atlas Motion Systems | 4112 Brushless MotorThe 4112 is a 450 KV motor with a 4S–8S supply range and a peak current rating of 60 A for 10 seconds in still air. Its no-load current is 0.6 A at 10 V, and its construction incorporates a 41 mm stator with a 12 mm stack height and N40SH magnets.

Weighing 148 g, the motor measures 46.50 mm in diameter and 28.80 mm high excluding the propeller shaft. Mechanical integration is provided by four M3 mounting holes with 25 mm spacing and a 3.95 mm diameter shaft stud extending 5 mm above the motor.

Custom Motor Design and Development

Atlas also develops custom motion systems based around specific mission and capability requirements, including designs for constrained environments where standard COTS products cannot meet the specification.

Atlas Motion Systems | Motor Testing and Validation

The company’s in-house Vector platform translates program requirements into motor designs and simulates their performance. Connected directly to prototyping and production, the platform enables custom designs to progress from specification to an initial build within weeks rather than months.

Once initial design and prototyping is successful, Atlas allocates manufacturing resources for its JDM partners and ensures guaranteed production capacity as customers scale.

Motor Testing and Validation

Atlas Motion Systems | Brushless Motors for Drones & Autonomous SystemsAtlas uses an in-house test stand to gather performance data and refine the simulations behind Vector. Testing covers motors from across the industry as well as its own designs, helping engineers understand behavior near operating limits where existing models require further validation.

The company’s testing of the 3115 included deliberately running the motor to failure while recording thermal video and temperature data. These measurements help assess heat buildup, winding insulation and performance changes during the run. Testing also accounts for the combined behavior of the motor, battery, wiring, electronic speed controller and propeller.

After winding failure, Atlas reinstalls the rotor on a fresh stator to investigate whether the magnets have suffered permanent loss of strength. This process helps assess demagnetization margin and feeds physical test results back into motor design and simulation.
