UAVOS has released a new visualization application for its NAVAI vision-based navigation module, enabling operators to monitor and adjust navigation algorithms in real time via portable ground control stations during GNSS-degraded operations.
When an active communication link is established, the application transforms NAVAI’s internal algorithmic processes into an accessible monitoring interface, allowing ground operators to observe how the module interacts with the autopilot and selects navigation data sources. Rather than displaying only the final position estimate, the tool provides a clear visual representation of how onboard camera images match against preloaded terrain maps.
NAVAI was developed as a vision-based navigation system for unmanned aerial vehicles to improve flight resilience during beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations where GNSS signals are subject to spoofing or jamming. Using neural networks, the system matches real-time camera imagery with stored terrain data to calculate position coordinates when satellite navigation becomes unreliable, functioning as an independent source or complementing standard navigation inputs.
Through the portable ground control station interface, operators can follow how the system arrives at its location estimates, observing orthophoto map flight paths, active satellite matching regions, and visual positioning algorithm outputs. The system indicates the confidence level of each visual fix and confirms the onboard position once quality criteria are satisfied.
The software also allows operators to adjust NAVAI operational parameters directly from the ground station based on live feedback. Operators can tweak match-confidence thresholds or alter the weighting between visual and inertial navigation sources, immediately viewing the impact on the vehicle’s estimated track.
Aliaksei Stratsilatau, Founder and CEO of UAVOS, commented, “The NAVAI visualization application is driven by one goal: giving operators greater confidence, flexibility, and capability. The recent application is a great example of how we are constantly evolving our platforms to ensure they are at the forefront of technology while providing best-in-class capabilities to operators.”
