Greensea IQ has introduced Bayonet Sweep, an autonomous underwater robot engineered to search and inspect ship hulls and harbor infrastructure without requiring human divers to enter the water.
Unlike routine hull maintenance systems, Bayonet Sweep is specifically built for force protection, providing navies, security teams, and port authorities with a rapid inspection method. Developed on the Greensea Core open-architecture software, the platform leverages the company’s background in underwater robotics for Mine Countermeasures (MCM) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The system offers a complete data workflow for threat assessment, allowing operators to launch a vehicle, detect a hull anomaly, classify a threat, alert the user, georeference the target’s location, and produce an aggregated hull record.
“We rely on ports and harbors worldwide, for our infrastructure. With all of those vessels coming in and out, we have no way of knowing what is on the underside of those ships. We’ve taken the navigation and autonomy technology that we’ve built EverClean upon, the technology that allows an autonomous vehicle to crawl along the hull, and we’ve developed a security robot that can be deployed to sweep from stem to stern reliably and with high confidence to provide an operator 100% intelligence on the hull of that ship. Through the use of this autonomy and navigation, we can plug a vital hole in our port and harbor security infrastructure,” said Ben Kinnaman, Greensea IQ’s Chief Executive Officer.
Evolved from the technology behind Greensea IQ’s EverClean hull maintenance platform, Bayonet Sweep serves as the newest addition to the Bayonet mission suite for MCM and strategic marine operations. The configurable vehicle can operate individually or deploy alongside multiple units to perform cohesive, rapid sweeps across broad target areas. Integrated software reporting compiles additional post-mission insights for a complete record.
Operating on the same user interface family as the rest of the Bayonet suite, the system is designed to streamline operator training. The commercially available, self-hosted platform is backed by operator training and ongoing assistance through over-the-horizon support provided by Greensea IQ.
