PIES

PIES (Pressure Inverted Echo Sounder) is a precision subsea instrument that measures sound velocity through the entire water column to provide valuable insights into ocean dynamics, current structures, and geophysical processes. Installed on the seabed and designed for autonomous operation, PIES delivers accurate, long-term measurements that support seismic, oceanographic, and environmental monitoring programs. Deployable for up to five years at depths of 3,000 meters, the system enables extended observation campaigns with minimal maintenance and reduced vessel time.

Engineered for reliability and ease of use, PIES features programmable sampling intervals, an integrated acoustic modem, and flexible data retrieval methods. Data can be harvested remotely via ROV, AUV, USV, or surface vessel, while the built-in acoustic release simplifies recovery. Available with glass sphere or hard-anodised aluminium housings, and optional anti-trawl frames, PIES ensures dependable performance in diverse ocean environments.

Operating in the LMF band (14–19 kHz) with data transfer rates up to 9,000 bps, it provides accurate sound velocity profiles for ocean scientists, geophysicists, and offshore survey teams seeking to understand deep-sea processes with precision and efficiency.
