Simpulse, a developer of long-range radio data links for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), introduces the SL300-R, a rugged Software-Defined Radio (SDR) modem designed for reliable mobile data and live video transmission in demanding environments.
Designed to support secure communications over extended distances in both Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) conditions, the SL300-R incorporates increased Radio Frequency (RF) power, dual-band operation, greater bandwidth, and features including anti-jamming and mesh networking, following the deployment of the company’s SL200 modem in long-range aerial and terrestrial applications.
Long-Range Communications for Unmanned Systems
The SL300-R offers an HD video transmission range exceeding 140 km, with applications including very long-range UAV operations, wireless video transmission, and telemetry for critical and secure applications.
Built around Simpulse’s proprietary SDR technology, the modem provides high sensitivity and robust synchronization in mobile environments, including under low signal-to-noise conditions.
Its signal processing core manages Doppler effects, interference, and multipath propagation, while measurement capabilities are used to optimize the link under real-world conditions. Simpulse also specifies that a robust control link can be maintained beyond the nominal distance range.
Additional features include multiple logical links, a low electromagnetic footprint, flexibility of adaptation, and a link analysis tool.
Dual-Band Operation and Rugged Design
The SL300-R operates across two standard frequency bands, 2.1–2.6 GHz and 4.4–5 GHz, with data rates ranging from 10 kbps to 10 Mbps. Available interfaces include Ethernet and serial connections.
The modem is supplied in a compact aluminum enclosure with an IP55 protection rating, incorporating a heat sink and fan. Measuring 112 × 75 × 32 mm and weighing 270 g with the fan installed, the unit operates with a power supply ranging from 10 to 32 V.
The SL300-R also incorporates anti-jamming functionality, mesh networking, and high-security features to support its intended long-range radio communication applications.
