BEI Corp outlines how its anode-free lithium metal battery technology is engineered to combine high energy density with high power capability, highlighting results from an independent bench test in which a 17 Ah, 14S battery pack maintained stable electrical and thermal performance under sustained high-load conditions.
Independent Testing Under Sustained High Load
For UAV and defense platforms, high-power battery performance requires more than the ability to deliver short bursts of current. Batteries must also sustain high output while maintaining stable voltage and controlling temperature throughout the discharge cycle.
In a bench test conducted by an independent organization, a 17 Ah, 14S BEI battery pack was discharged continuously at 5C, equivalent to 85 A, under room temperature conditions.
The pack sustained the applied load throughout the full discharge cycle while maintaining a stable voltage profile. Peak temperatures measured at the cell surfaces remained below 62°C.
The results demonstrated stable electrical and thermal behavior at the pack level under sustained high load, with significantly lower heat rise compared with conventional lithium-ion alternatives.
High Energy Density and Power Capability
Stable voltage delivery and controlled temperature are essential considerations for battery pack safety, system integration, and reliable power delivery across demanding flight profiles.
The tested performance begins with BEI’s anode-free lithium metal battery technology, which is engineered to combine high energy density with high power capability.
BEI’s NDAA-aligned supply chain also supports defense and UAV programs that must consider secure sourcing alongside performance.
Beyond individual cell performance, BEI emphasizes the importance of how battery characteristics carry through to the complete pack and ultimately into the mission.
