Tocaro Blue, a developer of smart marine radar processing solutions, explains how its ProteusCore™ machine learning software enables next-generation radar interfaces and advanced driver assistance capabilities for marine electronics OEMs. Read more >>
Modern vessel owners expect multifunction displays (MFDs) to behave similarly to consumer smart devices rather than traditional chart plotters. Meeting this expectation requires radar and navigation systems that deliver automated tuning alongside simplified user experiences.
ProteusCore provides OEMs with the tools to build smarter, simpler radar and navigation interfaces through dynamic target tracking, advanced automatic tuning, and radar classification capabilities.
Advanced Radar Processing & Perception
Radar measures the distance of objects using electromagnetic waves and requires precise tuning of multiple settings for accurate detection. ProteusCore applies advanced filtering of radar returns, machine learning-based “Auto-Focus,” and fusion with other available data sources such as AIS, charts, and lists of lights when available. This approach delivers a real-time stream of stable, reliable imaging of the radar-visible area.
The system can automatically reduce radar range as a vessel enters a narrow pass. With automatic tuning and detection capabilities, ProteusCore classifies radar targets, enabling the creation of visualizations that more accurately replicate real-world conditions. Seaward Automation’s UI is enabled by ProteusCore’s radar classification capability, illustrating how the software supports perception-driven navigation displays.
OEM Integration & Developer Tools
Designed for integration into OEM platforms, ProteusCore processes incoming data and outputs a stream of intelligently classified and tracked detections for display or fusion with other onboard sensors.
Engineers can visualize and manage system functions through the HTML5-based ProteusCore Configuration Application, which provides granular settings and control. From this interface, users can access status, control, and application tabs to adjust ProteusCore ML operations and radar settings.
