Tocaro Blue has integrated its ProteusCore software with FarSounder’s SonaSoft Lt navigation platform, bringing AI-powered radar perception to Argos 3D forward-looking sonar systems.
The software layer enhances standard marine radar with intelligent perception capabilities, enabling the detection, classification, and tracking of objects to support vessel control, collision avoidance, and safer navigation. Built on machine learning models trained on more than three million radar frames, the system improves target detection and environmental awareness for operators. It features Autofocus, a capability that automatically tunes radar settings such as range and gain based on sea and weather conditions, eliminating much of the manual adjustment typically required by traditional radar systems.
By combining this AI-driven radar processing with FarSounder’s Argos 3D forward-looking sonar, marine operators gain a more comprehensive understanding of both surface and subsurface hazards within a single display. The unified solution supports classification of vessels, including non-AIS targets, while also providing visibility of buoys, shorelines, and underwater obstacles ahead of the vessel. This dual-layer situational awareness supports more informed navigation decisions, particularly in congested, low-visibility, and unfamiliar or uncharted operating areas.
The integration expands the capabilities of the Argos 3D systems, which are designed to help mariners see ahead beneath the waterline by providing real-time data about the seafloor and the water column. The sonar technology delivers a continuously updated 3D view used worldwide by unmanned vessels, expedition cruise ships, superyachts, commercial operators, and government vessels to support safer navigation in shallow coastlines and changing marine environments.
John Minor, CEO of Tocaro Blue, commented, “Farsounder leads the industry with their Argos 3D FLS product line, and adopting ProteusCore™ is a natural fit to give mariners enhanced situational awareness. We’re thrilled to bring FarSounder customers a modern Radar experience, powered by ProteusCore!”
Matthew Zimmerman. CEO of FarSounder, added, “Today’s mariners expect systems that integrate seamlessly and present critical information clearly. Together, ProteusCore and Argos 3D forward-looking sonar technology provide operators with unprecedented awareness when navigating in challenging marine environments.”
