The Matr’YX connector from Nicomatic is a high-density board-to-board interconnect solution designed for defense, aerospace and other harsh environment applications where reliability, signal integrity and space efficiency are critical.
Designed around an ultra-compact BGA (Ball Grid Array) architecture with a 1 mm pitch, the connector supports more signal routing in less board space.
As electronic systems continue to increase in density, reducing connector pitch while maintaining reliable performance under vibration has become a significant challenge for defense and aerospace engineers. Matr’YX was developed specifically to address these requirements, combining high-speed data transmission with rugged mechanical performance in a compact form factor.
The connector supports data rates of up to 25 Gbps using PAM-4 signaling and 12.5 Gbps using NRZ signaling, enabling fast and stable signal transmission for high-speed electronic systems. With a contact density of more than 70 contacts/cm², the connector supports increasing I/O and speed requirements within compact electronic architectures.
Matr’YX is available in configurations ranging from 49 to 301 contacts, with adjustable stack heights from 5.5 mm to 14.5 mm for tailored board-to-board configurations and thermal management flexibility. The connector provides engineers with greater integration flexibility when developing compact defense and aerospace electronic systems.

To ensure robust performance in harsh operating environments, Nicomatic designed Matr’YX with a unique four-point contact architecture. Unlike conventional single-beam contacts, each pin incorporates four simultaneous contact points, creating mechanical redundancy that helps maintain electrical continuity even under vibrations of up to 30 g. The connector was specifically engineered to reduce the risk of micro-interruptions caused by contact resonance in high-density board stack-ups.
The connector also incorporates optimized gold plating to reduce fretting corrosion and improve long-term reliability. In addition, the design supports underfill application, increasing mechanical strength and extending the operational lifespan of PCB assemblies.
Matr’YX is designed for demanding defense, aeronautics and space applications, offering resistance to vibration, shock and harsh environmental conditions. Environmental specifications include temperature cycling between -55°C and +125°C, humidity resistance, salt spray resistance, and compliance with ECSS thermal vacuum outgassing requirements. The connector system is REACH and RoHS compliant and ITAR-free.
