LiveU, a global leader in live video broadcasting and streaming technology, provides real-time, high-quality video transmission products that enhance situational awareness and operational efficiency.
In this exclusive interview with UST, Joseph Yaker, LiveU’s Business Development Director of Public Safety, shares insights into the company’s technology, its role in improving security operations, and the future of real-time video surveillance.
Thanks for sitting down with us, Joseph. Let’s start with an overview of LiveU and the work you’re doing in the security industry.
Absolutely! At LiveU, we’re leaders in providing mission-critical, real-time video solutions for public safety. Our focus is on enabling effective situational awareness, response management, and command-and-control communications. We actually pioneered bonded IP video, which means we specialize in safely transporting mission-critical audio, video, and data over wire-free networks.
Interesting. How does that work, exactly?
It’s all thanks to our patented LiveU Reliable Transport or LRT, bonding technology. It uses various connections like 4G/5G cellular, LEO satellite, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet to create a highly resilient, secure, and high-quality link between an incident scene and command centers. It’s fast to deploy, easy to use, and mobile – those are the core aspects of our solution.
So it’s a comprehensive approach to handling video in critical situations?
Exactly. We’ve integrated video encoding, resilient connectivity, and collaboration tools into one intuitive solution. This removes complexity and ensures dependability for defense forces, first responders, and public safety professionals. It lets them focus on the mission rather than the technology.
Can you give us any examples of the kind of scenarios LiveU technologies support?
Our solutions are designed to handle scenarios that require the real-time transmission of video and data from sources like drones, ground vehicles, helicopters, dash cams, and body cams. Thanks to LRT, this data is reliably transmitted back to command centers or other devices, even from remote locations.
That’s impressive. How do you ensure the system stays reliable?
Our video encoders bond multiple connections such as cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and satellite, into a single, robust pipeline. The video signal is compressed and pieced up to make use of those various potential transmission routes. If one connection fails, the system automatically switches to the next best option. At its destination, the stream is reassembled with just milliseconds of latency. Think of it like the Star Trek transporter, but for video.
That’s a great analogy! Can you tell us about LiveU’s vision for the security industry?
Our vision at LiveU is simple: to set the standard for mission-critical bonded IP video solutions, creating a safer world. We aim to provide real-time visual intelligence that’s easy to use and share, empowering informed decisions and operational collaboration.
Where do you see the biggest opportunities in the industry right now?
Real-time video surveillance is becoming essential. Unlike traditional surveillance, which relies on recorded footage, real-time systems use AI and video analytics to detect and analyze events as they happen. This improves security, operational efficiency, and safety by enabling instant visibility and proactive threat detection.
What about the future? Any predictions for where the industry is headed?
I think video will continue to be a cornerstone of situational awareness platforms. The market for video surveillance is growing rapidly, driven by advancements in AI and increasing security needs. LiveU’s solutions are well-positioned to support this growth, particularly in providing secure, high-quality video feeds from drones, vehicles, and other sources.
What’s the most rewarding part of your work at LiveU?
Honestly, it’s the dynamic nature of the job. Every day brings something new. But most importantly, knowing that our technology is helping save lives and improve safety worldwide, that’s what keeps me motivated.
Thanks for sharing your insights, Joseph. It’s great to learn more about LiveU’s unique technology snd work within the security industry.
