Innovative High-Resolution Subsea Imaging and Power Technologies for Commercial, Scientific & Military Underwater Survey Missions

Kraken Robotics is a world-leading developer of high-resolution subsea imaging and power technologies for UUVs (unmanned underwater vehicles) that enable commercial, scientific and military clients to undertake the most challenging underwater survey missions. Our innovative solutions empower users to explore the world’s oceans safely, efficiently and sustainably, and are deployed around the world for a diverse range of applications including oil and gas, offshore energy, oceanography, defense and more.

In addition to our off-the-shelf products, we also offer Robotics as a Service (RaaS) packages, including geophysical, sonar, and LiDAR surveys.

Kraken SAS

High resolution miniature synthetic aperture sonar

Kraken MINSAS Synthetic Aperture SonarKraken’s miniature interferometric synthetic aperture sonar delivers industry-leading constant high resolution across the entire swath out to ranges of 200 meters per side, along with simultaneous bathymetry. The system features a modular array with length options of 60, 120, and 180 cm, allowing it to be integrated into UUVs of almost any size.

Kraken Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS)

The system processes raw sonar data into SAS tiles in real time, and stores these on the internal hard drive or optional removable data pod. This capability allows for embedded Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) and data exfiltration capabilities of processed SAS data and contacts, and significantly reduces post-mission analysis requirements.

Kraken SAS provides surveyors with impressive boosts in efficiency, and can reduce missions durations by up to three times.

Kraken MP-SAS

Compact synthetic aperture sonar for man-portable UUVs

Kraken MP-SAS

Kraken MP-SAS (Man-Portable Synthetic Aperture Sonar) provides revolutionary imaging capabilities for man-portable UUVs, offering a swath of up to 100m per side at 2 x 2cm resolution. Based on Kraken SAS technology and featuring lightweight transducers and other SWaP optimizations, Kraken MP-SAS empowers platforms that were previously considered too small to host SAS survey equipment.

Kraken Man-Portable Synthetic Aperture SonarThe MP-SAS modular payload section allows the system to be retrofitted to small UUVs with diameters from 7.5 to 9″, and enables easy in-field installation without the need for recalibration. The proven solution has been successfully integrated into 20+ year old vehicles, providing a significant capability upgrade at a fraction of the cost of a new UUV.

KATFISHâ„¢

High-resolution SAS towfish

KATFISHKATFISH Synthetic Aperture Sonar Towfishâ„¢ is an actively stabilized Synthetic Aperture Sonar towfish that provides industry-leading resolutions of 2 x 2 cm SAS imagery. With speeds of up to 10 knots, the system offers a significant advantage over slower-moving ROV and AUV-based systems, increasing Area Coverage Rates (ACR) and reducing survey times and operating costs.

SAS imagery

KATFISHâ„¢ allows 3 x 3 cm resolution data to be viewed in real time on board the towing vessel, or sent remotely to a mothership or shore-based command station. It can be rapidly deployed from a variety of vessels of opportunity with the use of an autonomous LARS (launch and recovery system).

SeaPowerâ„¢ Batteries

Long-endurance batteries for subsea vehicles

SeaPower Pressure Neutral BatteriesOur SeaPowerâ„¢ rechargeable batteries offer market-leading energy density and endurance, and are designed as a modular capability that can be customized to meet the needs of a variety of platforms from small to extra-large unmanned underwater vehicles.

The advanced batteries use pressure-tolerant Li-ion pouch cells embedded in a silicon polymer matrix, eliminating the need for housings or oil compensation. Multiple batteries can be connected together to form power banks of up to 5 MW, and fast charger allows up to nine batteries to be recharged in parallel, vastly reducing mission downtime.

SeaPower Pressure Tolerant Subsea Batteries

Rated to depths of down to 10,000m, SeaPowerâ„¢ batteries are expertly engineered for maximum safety and reliability at cell, battery, and system levels, and are compliant with U.S. Navy and maritime safety and transportation standards.

Services

Subsea LiDAR

Our 3D at Depth subsidiary offers a range of advanced underwater LiDAR solutions that enable high-resolution 3D point cloud data capture and detailed modelling for a variety of sectors including offshore energy, environmental research, construction, underwater archaeology, and more.

Sub-Bottom Imaging

Our Sub-Bottom Imager (SBI) uses state-of-the-art beamforming SAS arrays to image up to 5 meters beneath the seabed, providing highly accurate 3D data that can be used to identify buried objects, anomalies, geohazards, and stratigraphy for a wide range of applications including cable and pipeline assessment and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys.

Kraken Sub-Bottom Imaging

The versatile system can be mounted on vessels for nearshore applications and work-class ROVs for deepsea requirements, as well as on our SeaKite towed vehicle for high-speed data collection.

Acoustic Coring

Our Acoustic Corer utilizes advanced acoustic technology for sub-seabed interrogation, optimizing offshore installation programs. By bridging the gap between geophysical and geotechnical site investigation methods, it delivers a 3D acoustic core with a 14 m diameter and depths exceeding 50 m, depending on lithology.

Acoustic Coring

Towed SAS Surveys

We offer complete towed SAS survey packages using our high-resolution KATFISH towfish platform, delivering higher quality data with wider swaths and faster speeds than towed sidescan sonar. Our expert team plans and manages the project for you, carries out all required surveys, and delivers a complete data package.
