FarSounder’s Argos 3D Forward Looking Sonar (3DFLS) technology has been integrated into Robosys Automation’s VOYAGER AI autonomous navigation software, feeding real-time subsea hazard detection directly into intelligent vessel control systems.
The Argos 3D technology generates a three-dimensional view of the seabed and submerged obstacles ahead of a vessel, delivering critical perception that traditional echo sounders and static nautical charts cannot provide. By incorporating this subsea data into the VOYAGER AI autonomy engine, vessels gain the ability to detect, track, and autonomously navigate around both surface and subsurface hazards beyond the limits of standard navigation sensors.
For superyachts, the system continuously incorporates 3D sonar information into the bridge decision-making framework, supporting safer passage in poorly charted waters, remote anchorages, and complex coastal areas. The integration aligns with the superyacht sector’s adoption of advanced digital bridge tools designed to lower operator workload, improve safety, and enable reduced-crew operations in uncharted destinations.
Beyond crewed luxury vessels, the integration provides Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) operators with an essential layer of subsea awareness. Autonomous and remotely supervised craft operating in dynamic or hazardous marine environments benefit from improved route optimization, enhanced mission safety, and operational resilience.
Matthew Zimmerman, CEO of FarSounder, said, “Autonomous navigation is only as capable as the information available to the system. By bringing Argos 3D sonar’s real-time underwater perception into the VOYAGER AI autonomy stack, vessels can extend their situational awareness below the surface and into the water ahead. Integration of complementary sensor technologies is important for crewed and uncrewed vessels. This integration demonstrates how vessels can have a more complete understanding of their environment, helping them navigate with greater confidence and safety.”
Aditya Nawab, CEO Robosys Automation, added, “Integrating FarSounder’s proven forward-looking sonar technology with VOYAGER AI represents another important step towards intelligent maritime operations. The ability to combine above-water sensor data with real-time underwater subsea awareness enhances navigation safety and provides operators with greater confidence when operating in challenging environments.”
The combined solution fits within broader industry efforts to expand sensor fusion and intelligent decision support, scaling across vessel platforms ranging from leisure craft to advanced commercial and autonomous systems.
