FarSounder has expanded the capabilities of its Argos Forward Looking Navigation Sonar (FLS) through a new software integration with Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore platform.
The integration brings AI-powered Radar perception to FarSounder’s SonaSoft Lt navigation software, allowing maritime operators to view both surface and subsurface hazards within a single display. By combining these technologies, users can classify vessels, including non-AIS targets, while simultaneously identifying buoys, shorelines, and underwater obstacles ahead of the vessel. This dual-layer situational awareness is designed to support informed navigation decisions in congested, low-visibility, and unfamiliar or uncharted operating areas.
FarSounder’s Argos 3D FLS systems provide a continuously updated 3D view of the seafloor and water column, enabling safer navigation in changing environments, shallow coastlines, and poorly charted waters. FLS technology is utilized globally by unmanned vessels, expedition cruise ships, superyachts, commercial operators, and government vessels to enhance navigational confidence.
Complementing the sonar data, Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore system functions as an intelligent perception sensor that detects, classifies, and tracks objects using machine learning models trained on more than three million Radar frames. The system includes an Autofocus feature that automatically adjusts traditional Radar settings like range and gain based on real-time sea and weather conditions, reducing the need for manual adjustments.
“Farsounder leads the industry with their Argos 3D FLS product line, and adopting ProteusCore™ is a natural fit to give mariners enhanced situational awareness,” said John Minor, CEO of Tocaro Blue. “We’re thrilled to bring FarSounder customers a modern Radar experience, powered by ProteusCore!”
The integrated solution directly addresses the evolving needs of modern vessel operators who require clear, centralized data streams to navigate safely in difficult marine environments.
“Today’s mariners expect systems that integrate seamlessly and present critical information clearly,” said Matthew Zimmerman. “Together, ProteusCore and Argos 3D forward-looking sonar technology provide operators with unprecedented awareness when navigating in challenging marine environments.”
