SES AI will attend Commercial UAV Expo 2026, taking place September 1–3 at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, where the company will welcome visitors at Booth #1130.
As commercial UAV capabilities expand, battery performance is becoming increasingly important to aircraft range, endurance and payload capacity. For drone designers, the relationship between energy and weight is particularly critical: every gram allocated to the battery affects the weight available for cameras, sensors, communications equipment and other mission payloads.
SES AI is addressing this challenge through the development of high-energy-density, lightweight batteries for aviation applications.
AI-Driven Battery Development for UAVs
Alongside battery manufacturing, SES AI is applying artificial intelligence to one of the most complex areas of battery development – identifying materials with the properties required for particular applications.
Its Molecular Universe maps approximately 100 million potential molecules, enabling materials to be evaluated for characteristics including energy density, temperature performance and other application-specific requirements.
Rather than relying solely on conventional material discovery processes, SES AI uses AI and computational tools to narrow the search to promising candidates. According to the company, this can reduce parts of the material discovery process from years to weeks.
For UAV developers, this approach creates the potential to develop battery chemistries around increasingly demanding aircraft and mission requirements.
Supporting the Next Generation of Commercial Drones
The availability of advanced batteries at commercial scale is also becoming an important consideration as drone manufacturing expands.
SES AI currently operates battery manufacturing capacity in South Korea and is evaluating additional capacity as it responds to growing demand from drone customers. The company combines this manufacturing expertise with battery materials research and processes developed through its work with automotive manufacturers.
