AML Oceanographic has released Sailfish 1.5.1, introducing a new feature called CastQC that is designed to accelerate and streamline hydrographic survey operations through a dynamic, click-and-go cast validation process.
The development of CastQC stems from real-world testing and feedback from a hydrographic expert, with the tool shaped around the practical needs of surveyors and the goal of minimizing time lost to vertical profiling. Traditionally, the cast validation process has been extensive and time-consuming, requiring internal assessment and the cross-referencing of past profiles. CastQC addresses this workflow challenge by allowing surveyors to quickly validate new profiles against a dynamic reference cast.
CastQC includes several features tailored to hydrographic survey workflows, including interactive data editing that allows users to remove specific data points and instantly visualize the impact on cast quality. The feature also supports a multi-cast display optimized to show up to three casts simultaneously for side-by-side comparison.
Surveyors can manage their workflows using either dynamic or manually set reference casts, with approved or rejected statuses remaining persistent throughout the auditing process while retaining the flexibility to revisit and adjust decisions as needed. To further support faster data processing, CastQC integrates industry-standard keyboard shortcuts and enables the immediate export of validated casts for mission use.
