VIAVI Solutions Inc. has partnered with Ground Control to integrate its Secure µPNT STL-1000 receiver into the RockFLEET Assured maritime tracking and navigation system.
As global environments become increasingly contested, reliance on standard GPS and GNSS signals alone creates significant vulnerabilities to jamming and spoofing. To address these risks, the RockFLEET Assured solution now utilizes the VIAVI STL-1000, a compact software-defined receiver designed to work with SecureTime altGNSS LEO services. This technology delivers precise timing and holdover capabilities, ensuring that maritime vessels can maintain tracking and authenticated navigation even in denied, degraded, and disrupted space operational environments.
The system is specifically engineered as a marine-grade Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (A-PNT) solution. By leveraging Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite signals, the platform provides a trusted secondary source of positioning data that remains functional when traditional satellite signals are compromised.
Doug Russell, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Aerospace and Defense, VIAVI, said, “With jamming and spoofing now a core element of cyber warfare, resilient PNT solutions are no longer optional. The Secure µPNT STL-1000 enables assured, uninterrupted operations, especially in contested environments. Its compact size and low power consumption makes it ideal for applications that require an extremely small, low-power, secure, resilient embedded PNT receiver.”
Alastair MacLeod, CEO of Ground Control, added, “As the frequency of jamming and spoofing continues to rise, reliance on GPS/GNSS signals alone increasingly exposes both commercial and military operations to risk. Integrating VIAVI’s Secure µPNT STL-1000 into RockFLEET Assured delivers a trusted secondary position source, strengthening resilience for mission‑critical operations across defense, maritime and critical infrastructure environments.”
The rise in electronic interference poses a growing threat to both commercial and military maritime operations. By incorporating these resilient PNT capabilities, Ground Control aims to strengthen the security of critical infrastructure and defense assets at sea.
