Ground Control and Ambrey have partnered to provide the maritime industry with enhanced defenses against targeted GPS disruption through the launch of RockFLEET Assured.
The new solution addresses the mounting operational risks associated with GPS-denied conditions, which have become widespread across critical trade routes including the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Arabian Gulf, and the Straits of Hormuz. These disruptions, which include both jamming and spoofing, frequently impact navigation accuracy and can lead to severe consequences such as vessel collisions, groundings, and a total loss of situational awareness for the crew.
RockFLEET Assured is an assured positioning, navigation, and timing (A-PNT) solution designed to maintain operational continuity even when traditional Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are degraded. The system is built on Ground Control’s satellite engineering expertise and integrates an Iridium PNT module. This hardware allows for authenticated positioning workflows that do not rely solely on standard GPS signals.
The system features a rugged, marine-grade smart antenna capable of two-way satellite messaging. This allows both onboard crews and shore-based management teams to validate vessel positions and detect anomalies in real-time. Ambrey, a global maritime security and operational intelligence company, will integrate this technology into its existing risk management services, providing its global client base with more robust tracking capabilities.
This technical collaboration is supported by Ambrey’s 24/7 Global Operations Centre (GOC) in Southampton. The facility provides continuous monitoring and operational support, ensuring that the connectivity remains “always-on” to safeguard seafarers and cargo in volatile regions.
Alastair Macleod, CEO of Ground Control, said, “GNSS disruption is no longer a niche concern, it’s a practical challenge for commercial fleets operating in high-risk regions. By working with Ambrey, we’re bringing a straightforward, reliable solution to market that enables ship and shore teams to validate position, detect anomalies, and maintain trusted oversight when GNSS can’t be relied upon.”
The partnership aims to fill a critical gap in maritime safety as shipping companies face increased economic exposure due to navigation interference.
Ben Westcott, Director of Digital Services at Ambrey, added, “Our customers consistently highlight GPS-denied environments as a major operational and safety concern. We are delighted to be working with Ground Control, a leader in assured positioning, to bring enhanced tracking and navigation capabilities to our clients.”
