Schiebel Group has been contracted to provide ship-based CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) for the Hellenic Navy’s new fleet of FDI Belharra-class frigates.
These systems are destined for the HS Kimon, HS Nearchos, and HS Formion. The HS Kimon, which arrived in Greece in January 2026, is scheduled to be equipped with the S-100 VTOL UAV in the spring of 2026. This timeline coincides with the expected completion of training for the initial Greek flight crews. Beyond ship-based operations, an additional system will be utilized from land to facilitate ongoing training and enhance operator proficiency.
The remaining units will be deployed as the frigates enter service, with HS Nearchos scheduled for late 2026 and HS Formion expected by early 2027. Built by the French Naval Group, these frigates are pre-fitted for S-100 integration, a design feature that allows for rapid installation and immediate operational introduction upon delivery.
The S-100 systems are configured with a Wescam MX-10 EO/IR camera gimbal and an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch. This technical suite is designed to support a diverse range of naval missions, including maritime security, search and rescue, environmental monitoring, and the control of Greece’s exclusive economic zone. Furthermore, the unmanned craft will play a role in Anti-Submarine Warfare operations.
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, said, “We are extremely proud that the CAMCOPTER S-100 is the UAS of choice for the Hellenic Navy. With its proven maritime performance, endurance and payload capacity, the S-100 will provide commanders with extended situational awareness, further enhancing the operational capabilities of the Hellenic Navy’s surface forces.”
