Elsight, a leader in advanced connectivity solutions, has partnered with Skydio to push the boundaries of autonomous drone technology for defense and government applications.
As Skydio continues to innovate with its X10D drone, Elsight’s Halo connectivity solution is playing a pivotal role in expanding the drone’s capabilities for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.
This partnership is said to underscores the growing importance of reliable, high-performance communication solutions in critical ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) missions and other demanding defense operations.
Skydio X10D, known for its autonomous flight systems, offers unmatched flexibility for mission-critical applications. With the integration of Elsight Halo, the X10D is equipped to handle remote and complex tasks, ensuring reliable connectivity even in the most challenging environments. The Halo’s ability to aggregate multiple cellular modems ensures a seamless connection, combining cellular, radio, and satellite signals to maintain continuous and secure communication—vital for tactical operations in both hostile and GPS-denied zones.
The Skydio X10D platform, which entered full-rate production last year, features a modular design that supports a range of mission-specific attachments. These include advanced sensors, payloads, and other specialized equipment, allowing defense and government customers to customize the drone’s functionality. With four payload attachment bays offering up to 50 watts of power each, the X10D is adaptable to various use cases, from reconnaissance to electronic warfare.
Elsight’s Halo plays a crucial role in enabling real-time data transmission for critical missions, offering BVLOS capabilities for drones, UAVs, and other unmanned systems. By combining Skydio’s advanced autonomous navigation and Elsight’s robust connectivity, the X10D can operate seamlessly over long distances, allowing operators to maintain full control and situational awareness.
Yoav Amitai, CEO of Elsight, said, “Our battlefield-proven Halo for BVLOS connectivity enables military field operations to maintain communications in areas of minimal infrastructure, avoid interference and jamming, and control the system remotely from anywhere in the world. We are excited to be a part of Skydio’s extended, modular, open platform of the X10D. We look forward to contributing our robust and innovative BVLOS capabilities to many U.S. defense applications and exercises.”
Skydio’s collaboration with Elsight and other industry leaders like L3Harris Technologies ensures that the X10D drone remains at the forefront of military and defense innovation. As both companies continue to refine their technologies, they are setting a new standard for autonomous, secure, and flexible drone operations that meet the evolving needs of defense and government agencies.
