The Model 742DP from Analog Modules, Inc. (AMI) is a Laser Spot Tracker designed to provide wide flexibility for missile and platform tracker applications. Read more >>
The system comprises a hermetically sealed, temperature-controlled detector with built-in front-end electronics mounted on an SMT board. A second printed board contains the analog and digital processing circuits. Individual channels are digitized using a high-speed A-D converter, with steering and status information output via a serial interface.
Detector Configuration & Threshold Control
A range of N-type custom-designed detectors provides high performance at 1.06μm, and a separate substrate allows the detector size or type to be optimized for the application. The Model 742DP is available with a 5.33mm or 14mm quadrant detector, with other sizes and InGaAs options also available.
The Model 742DP uses independent five-channel noise detectors to set low thresholds and support long acquisition ranges across different background light conditions and spot positions, while special circuits help resist sunlight blinding in any one or all quadrants. Adaptive threshold control on each channel, plus the sum channel, supports optimum signal-to-noise operation. Power management is used to reduce power consumption, and multiple gain stages are automatically set.
Performance & Physical Specifications
The temperature-controlled detector includes a built-in heater and has an inter-element gap of 0.003 inches, or 76μm, with responsivity of 0.4 A/W at 1.06μm and a bias voltage of 180V. Per-quadrant leakage at 25°C is less than 10nA for the 5.33mm version and less than 200nA for the 14mm version.
For sun protection and performance, the Model 742DP provides linear operation up to 10μW per quadrant at 1.06μm, with over-temperature sensor output and resistively limited over-current protection also included. The system has a dynamic range greater than 100,000:1, with minimum signal levels of 200nW for the 5.33mm version and 400nW for the 14mm version, based on a single-channel typical value at 50% probability of detection.
Inputs include first, last, and peak pulse logic tri-service code and PIM sequence via an RS-422/RS-485 full duplex serial interface. For power, the Model 742DP operates from +5V ±2% at 600mA, including up to 250mA for the heater, and -5V ±2% at 200mA.
The system includes a hermetically sealed detector/amplifier on a mini SMT PCB and a quadrant processor board, with connections provided via Omnetics PN A16464-001. It operates from -40°C to +85°C and weighs 1.62 oz., or 45 g. Component dimensions are 1.123 inches diameter by 0.43 inches high for the detector, 1.6 by 1.18 by 0.492 inches high for the amplifier PCB, and 3.0 by 2.30 by 0.50 inches high for the quadrant processor.
