MightyZap linear actuators, manufactured by IR Robot in South Korea, are specialized micro-linear servos designed for precision motion in compact applications. Within the aerospace sector, they are primarily deployed in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), where size, weight, and control accuracy are critical.
Key Technical Features
MightyZap actuators function as integrated “smart” servos, combining the motor, gearbox, and control electronics within a single compact housing:
- Precise feedback: Absolute position sensors (potentiometers) with 4096-step resolution enable sub-millimeter accuracy, typically around 30–50 μm.
- Communication protocols: Support for PWM (standard RC signal), half-duplex TTL, and RS-485 (Modbus RTU), allowing multiple actuators to be daisy-chained on a single bus.
- Coreless motors: The Premium lineup utilizes high-performance coreless DC motors, providing faster response and extended operational lifespan compared to conventional cored motors.
- Compact form factor: Weighing approximately 40–100 g, these actuators are significantly lighter than traditional hydraulic or pneumatic alternatives.
