Doppler Velocity Logs

Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) from Teledyne RD Instruments measure velocity relative to the seabed or surrounding water, providing data for subsea navigation. Pioneer, Tasman, and Pathfinder offer different operating frequencies, bottom-tracking ranges, and depth ratings. Maximum bottom-tracking ranges use the optional Extended Range Tracking (XRT) configuration where specified; instrument depth rating is a separate measure.

  • Pioneer DVL: 150 kHz phased-array DVL for larger subsea installations, with standard bottom tracking to 500 m and up to 800 m with XRT. Standard depth-rating options are 1,000 and 6,000 m.
  • Tasman DVL: Field-replaceable phased-array transducer and optional current profiling. With XRT, its 300 kHz model reaches up to 420 m bottom-tracking range and its 600 kHz model up to 160 m; both have a 6,000 m depth rating.
  • Pathfinder DVL: Compact 600 kHz DVL with self-contained or remote-head options. Bottom tracking reaches 80 m, or up to 140 m with XRT; depth-rating options are 300, 500, and 6,000 m.
