Germanium lenses are often used in thermal imaging cameras due to their transmission in both the MWIR and LWIR thermal wavebands.
Knight Optical can provide our customers with custom germanium lenses made to bespoke requirements. Germanium lenses, both aspheric and spherical, make up a large portion of our custom catalogue.
We can provide lenses in diameters of 100mm or more, and would generally recommend an antireflective (AR) coating to increase the transmission in the working waveband. If a surface is exposed, a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating is ideal as it ehances the durability of the surface.
