Phins 9 Compact is an advanced Inertial Navigation System (INS) from Exail designed for autonomous underwater vehicles requiring accurate and dependable subsea navigation in a compact package. Based on Exail’s Fiber-Optic Gyro (FOG) technology developed over more than 30 years, the system delivers precise heading, roll, pitch, speed, and positioning data for underwater missions where GNSS signals are unavailable. Its compact footprint and low power consumption make it well suited for AUV platforms conducting inspection, survey, and long-endurance autonomous operations.
Developed specifically for subsea environments, Phins 9 Compact integrates dedicated underwater navigation algorithms within a genuine strapdown solid-state architecture to support reliable autonomous performance and streamlined vehicle integration. The system shares a common architecture, interface structure, and software environment across the Phins Compact Series, enabling easier deployment across multiple AUV types while helping reduce integration effort and development costs. Ethernet connectivity and open architecture compatibility with third-party sensors provide flexibility for manufacturers and operators developing advanced unmanned marine platforms.
