Watch a demonstration of Nokia drones operating remotely over Deutsche Telekom’s public 5G network. Conducted in Bonn, Germany, the operation involved drones controlled from an operations center in Belgium, marking what is reportedly the first-ever cross-country use of remote-controlled drones on a programmable network.
By integrating Network as Code to interface with CAMARA APIs, the team achieved real-time location verification of the drone fleet and enhanced network quality in flight areas, even in congested conditions. This highlights the potential for programmable network capabilities to ensure safe and reliable drone operations.
The demonstration also incorporated unmanned traffic management systems, ensuring seamless integration of drones into the airspace. This achievement was made possible through collaboration between Nokia, Deutsche Telekom, and a network of partners, leveraging 5G’s advanced capabilities for efficient, long-distance drone operations.
