Apella Solutions recently expanded its radio frequency product lineup with the introduction of a new high-strength spring-flex antenna engineered specifically for Small & Medium Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs).
Unmanned ground platforms operating in defence, security, and autonomous applications frequently navigate harsh environments characterized by dense vegetation, tight spaces, uneven terrain, and high risks of overturning. On conventional platforms, rigid antennas present a critical single point of failure, as physical impact can easily sever communication links or damage equipment.
To address this operational vulnerability, the newly developed antenna incorporates a spring-flex mechanical architecture designed to bend upon impact and absorb kinetic energy, maintaining structural integrity and protecting the underlying RF link during high-risk operations. Available across L, S, and C frequency bands, the robust design focuses on maximizing antenna survivability across both remotely operated and fully autonomous systems.
Apella Solutions said, “We’re focused on developing robust, mission-driven RF solutions that work with the platform, not against it.”
By integrating mechanical resilience directly into the antenna structure, Apella Solutions aims to ensure reliable continuous communications for land-based robotic systems deployed in unpredictable and severe operational conditions.
