GeoCue Integrates Ouster Native Color Lidar for Infrastructure Mapping

Sensing and perception developer Ouster has partnered with drone mapping provider GeoCue to integrate the Rev8 OS1 Max native color digital lidar sensor into GeoCue’s TrueView payload lineup and LP360 software suite.

The collaboration brings Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) compliance to GeoCue’s aerial mapping payloads, giving infrastructure and utility customers with domestic production mandates a high-performance solution. The integration follows joint flight testing and firmware tuning conducted at GeoCue’s facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

“We are moving America’s drone surveying onto American sensing by pairing our TrueView payloads with Ouster’s Rev8 OS1 Max,” said Frank Darmayan, CEO of GeoCue. “This transition allows us to offer our customers a compliant, high-performance solution that delivers the survey-grade data they depend on for critical infrastructure monitoring and large-scale mapping projects.”

The Rev8 OS1 Max provides key technical performance advantages tailored for long-corridor and utility surveying. A smaller spot size and tighter beam allow TrueView payloads to resolve fine structures such as power lines and building edges. An expanded operational range reaching 200 meters at 10 percent reflectivity allows operators to fly higher and clear altitude restrictions without sacrificing point quality. Furthermore, 256 channels operating in 2K and 4K modes maintain dense point capture even at higher flight speeds, supporting both propeller and fixed-wing aircraft.

The sensor also captures native color directly alongside 3D lidar data, ensuring every point arrives inherently aligned to its color information. Combined with the dual cameras embedded in TrueView payloads, this provides LP360 processing software with an additional RGB reference for registering camera imagery to point clouds, enabling tighter overall sensor fusion.
