SteerAI, an autonomous technology company powered by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), and Milrem Robotics have partnered to integrate advanced autonomy into a fleet of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for the UAE Land Forces integration programme.
The collaboration will see SteerAI equip 20 of Milrem’s THeMIS UGVs with its advanced, AI-powered autonomy kit, called CoreX, as part of a program designed to integrate autonomous capabilities into the UAE land forces.
The partnership agreement was finalized this week at IDEX 2025, the Middle East’s largest defense exhibition. The overall program, led by Milrem Robotics, is designed to evaluate and integrate unmanned capabilities into the armed forces, aligning with modern warfare needs.
SteerAI’s CoreX utilizes Artificial Intellgience (AI), advanced perception sensors, cameras, and Lidar to convert existing fleets into autonomous systems. The kit’s capabilities are further enhanced with an advanced fleet management system. CoreX-equipped platforms can independently navigate complex and challenging terrains, respond to threats in hostile environments, and provide real-time intelligence to remote operators, thereby safeguarding troops.
Michael Sonderby, the Acting CEO of SteerAI, stated, “By combining our technological and industry expertise with Milrem Robotics’ cutting-edge robotic platforms, we are delivering next-generation mission execution capabilities that will ensure troops can be agile, precise, and efficient while staying safe. We’re looking forward to working with partners throughout the country to further position the UAE on the leading edge of defence technology.”
Kuldar Väärsi, the CEO of Milrem Robotics, also commented on the selection, noting that, “Milrem Robotics knows very well how challenging it is to develop reliable autonomous navigation for military purposes. TII and SteerAI have done excellent work with such development, and it’s great to integrate their solution into our vehicles for UAE customers.”
In the broader UAE program, Milrem Robotics will integrate the THeMIS UGV, VECTOR RCV, and various unmanned aerial platforms and manned vehicles into a combined functioning combat system using Milrem’s robotics command and control suite.
