Tools for Successful Inertial Sensor & FOG Integration

KVH has released the following article highlighting how its KVH Developer’s Kit and GEO-FOG Manager sensor fusion tool provide easy and effective integration of inertial sensors and Fiber Optic Gyros (FOG) for applications such as UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and robotics.

Choosing the right inertial system or Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) to integrate into your application is essential. Effective integration requires a company that understands both that the delivery of the system is just the beginning and that even people as smart as engineers sometimes need a little help. KVH offers that help in the form of two great inertial integration tools – the KVH Developer’s Kit and the GEO-FOG Manager. Both tools enable customers to make inertial integration easy and seamless, whatever their application.

Both tools are easy to install and designed to be easy to use.”

“The Developer’s Kit includes a software program that’s extremely versatile and enables customers to perform a number of important integration tasks. The KVH Developer’s Kit enables rapid prototyping and accelerates your system development. It also helps with troubleshooting and debugging.”

In addition to the Developer’s Kit, KVH provides the GEO-FOG Manager for its INS. Mike explains: “The GEO-FOG Manager is a robust system that offers everything customers need to integrate their KVH INS effectively and quickly into their application to provide accurate navigation and much more. The GEO-FOG Manager has lots of abilities. It’s a full sensor fusion tool.”

Sensor fusion enables inputs from multiple sensors such as radars, lidars and cameras to form a single model or image of the environment around a platform. The resulting model is more accurate because it balances the strengths of the different sensors.

The GEO-FOG Manager has 50 different types of messages that it can send, and offers fiber options, alignment information, as well as orientation output and raw sensors output. A rugged and very useful integration tool, the GEO-FOG Manager allows customers to select the data they need and compensate out the data they don’t.
