Urban Drones Splash DroneUrban Drones LLC, a provider of drones for the amateur market, has announced the Splash Drone, a waterproof quadcopter with autonomous features, payload release mechanism, emergency flare system and a waterproof camera-stabilizing gimbal. The Splash Drone will be released in two versions, GPS-Standard and Fully Autonomous. The autonomous version can be flown by drawing a path with one finger on the Droid Planner App, which is available on the Google Play App store. The Splash even has a Follow-Me feature that allows users to command the drone to follow a subject around without the need to give it control inputs.

“If you’re the outdoors type, the Splash Drone is your waterproof flying camera,” said Alex Rodriguez, CEO of Urban Drones. “It is not only for fun, but it is also useful during emergency situations. Normally, when you deploy an emergency flare, it disappears in 10 seconds, now with the Splash Drone you can deploy an emergency flare for 15 minutes giving you a much better chance of being seen by search and rescue personnel.”

The Splash Drone is equipped with a camera-stabilizing gimbal that gets submerged when the drone lands on the water, giving the drone enthusiast the ability to get an underwater view with the included 7-inch wireless receiver monitor. Both versions of the Splash Drone have GPS assisted navigation and include a remote control with an imbedded On Screen Display (OSD). The On Screen Display shows critical information on a backlit LCD, includingl ocation, altitude, battery life, flight direction and flying mode.

The Splash Drone has surpassed its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter.com. “We can’t wait to start shipping the first iteration of our waterproof drone,” said Rodriguez. “There’s a lot more that we we’re planning with this concept and we’re thrilled about the future of our company.”

The Splash Drone’s Kickstarter campaign can be found here.
