DOD Unmanned Systems SummitWith the newly released “DoD Unmanned Systems Roadmap”, Senior Leaders from within OSD, Army, Navy, and Air Force will join members from academia and industry in a Town Hall forum March 25 -26, 2014 in Alexandria, VA, hosted by DSI, to discuss and debate the most pressing mission critical needs, and next-steps in the evolution of the use of unmanned systems.

The focus of U.S. military Services in times of budget constraints and shifting theaters of operation is on operational efficiency. Unmanned systems can no longer assume just one role or function. Systems will need to be able to carry out a broader range of surveillance missions, demonstrating interoperability with other platforms.

Systems will also need to improve in various areas that this Summit will explore including:

1. Efficient Onboard Data Processing for ISR
2. Development and evolution of unmanned Common Control Systems (CCS), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based software
3. Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) based software/hardware solutions for fielded systems
4. MUM-T and Autonomous activity
5. Precision handling
7. Mine-Counter measures (MCM)

DSI’s upcoming Summit recognizes that in a field such as unmanned systems, where there are multiple agents acting in tandem, it is extremely important that all involved are working towards a cohesive and holistic approach. “While the field has seen an immense amount of ebbing and flowing, we believe that truly great advancements are on the horizon…. and this is why our Senior Partners decided to lend our expertise towards creating a forum that can bring together stakeholders across the continuum of the community,” Monica Mckenzie, Senior Partner at DSI stated.

Several subject matter experts that will be sharing their respective viewpoints and knowledge with those in attendance include:

* Mr. Earl Wyatt, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Rapid Fielding (RF), OSD (AT&L) discussing rapid fielding’s future lines of operations and multi-domain technologies and concepts to satisfy DoD, Joint-Service and COCOM priorities

*Mr. Dyke Weatherington, Director, UW & ISR, Strategic and Tactical Systems, USD (AT&L), who will address the DoD budgetary environment and planning for the future, and current unmanned programs, along with a discussion of the UAS TF and the recently released Unmanned Systems Integrated Roadmap

* CAPT David Honabach, USN, Unmanned Maritime Systems, PMS 406 Major Acquisition PM, speaking on the challenges and risks identified with autonomy for current USV and UUV platforms, moving towards Open Architecture (OA) in unmanned systems, multi-systems collaborative challenges, and a status report of LDUUV.

“We encourage all who have a working knowledge of the issues at hand and want to contribute or learn more about the subject matters to join us in March”, Ms.Mckenzie further stated.

The forum is open to the public, however seating is limited. Anyone interested in participating in the Summit can go to Defense Strategies Institute’s website at www.dsigroup.org for more information or contact Lisa Madison at [email protected] 1-347-732-5326
